Disclosure

In the field walking
he sensed a darkness,
some shadow crossing
the face of the sun.

Hawk, perhaps, hanging
slant on the wind’s edge,
balloon broken loose,
or singular cloud.

While he stood watching
light seemed to narrow,
lacked all beginning
yet shone from within.

Nothing to do but
praise this brief moment,
now but a dimming
back to day’s brightness.

Did something linger
past that disclosure?
Wind in its searching
among the small leaves.
